Statement From Sen. Lindsey Daugherty, Chair Of The Colorado Opportunity Caucus, Regarding Ethics Complaint
Since its creation, the Colorado Opportunity Caucus has operated under direct legal guidance, in order to ensure full compliance with the law. The State Ethics Commission has to perform their due diligence and when they do, we are confident the complaint will be dismissed as the political theater it is.
Surprisingly, I learned about this “confidential” complaint from the Denver Post, rather than normal and official channels. It reflects a desire to litigate a public firestorm in the press rather than a legitimate investigation through long-established processes. We will follow established legal processes, as we have all along.
Some additional context for the public may also be helpful. For several weeks, the state legislature’s Opportunity Caucus has been the target of coordinated attacks for following the standards and laws that have been in place for years. Make no mistake, these are the exact same standards and laws that have been followed by every other legislative caucus. The people who oppose our focus on affordability and jobs with good pay—the basic kitchen-table issues facing Colorado families—will do anything to stop us.
The results of yesterday’s elections sent a message loud and clear: Democrats have momentum. Right when we need it. Headed into 2026.
How do we ride that momentum? By elevating each other, not by tearing each other down.
The phrase, “It's the economy, stupid,” is as true today as when it was coined 33 years ago. Let’s focus on the real problems facing our state and its people, and move Colorado forward.
